Purpose of the Webinar

As a volunteer at the Fundación Venezolanos Unidos en Aruba, I produced a webinar to raise awareness of diabetes in the community.

Steps when Creating

Based on the ADDIE model, I designed the Webinar.

1

Analysis

According to the organization, there has been some confusion among the community about what Diabetes is, how someone could get it, and how to generally treat it. Therefore, the instructional goal was to address the learner's need of understanding the general topic of Diabetes. Due to pandemic and SMEs location, a live webinar was decided as the best delivery method. The streaming dates and times were planned based on the SMEs availability and public reach.

Several learning theories were considered such as Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning and principles of voice (= human voice with a standard accent), personalization (= use of you and I), segmenting (= learner-paced segments), redundancy (= use of only necessary information), pre-training (= show names and characteristics of main concepts), and temporal contiguity (= use of graphics and narration at the same time).
2

Design

Based on the instructional goal, we established the following learning objective: Introduce general topics of diabetes to raise awareness and continue the discussion. We worked together with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to establish topics that had a link together and ordered them in logical order.

Development

The SMEs sent me their photos, text, and videos that they would like to add in their presentation. Later, I send it to the SMEs for revision. After approval, I merged all presentations into the main presentation PPT. Together with the organization, we planned several informative sessions with SMEs to guide and practice presentations. I summarized the most important points on a picture and shared it with all SMEs.

Implementation

I initially live streamed the webinar on the organization's Facebook page. But, to make it more concise, I later edited the recording on iMovie and re-uploaded it on the organization's YouTube channel.
5

Evaluation

To evaluate the content usefulness and satisfaction of learners, we observed the metrics of the video (likes and comments) and asked directly from learners that watched the video. We received a relatively good amount of reactions (likes, comments, and shares) and verbal positive comments.
