Purpose of the Info Hub

As an Instructional Design Student Assistant at the BMS Lab, I re-designed the Info Hub to better support the University of Twente's Researchers, Teachers, and Students when looking for information and using the Lab's software, equipment, facilities, and services.

Steps when Creating

Based on the ADDIE model, I re-designed the Info Hub.

Analysis

According to the BMS Lab's Project Lead, the Researchers, Teachers, and Students visiting the using the Info Hub website could not find the right and updated information on Software, Equipment, Facilities and Services. Therefore, the instructional goal was to address the learner's need of easily finding updated information on these four main categories: Software, Equipment, Facilities and Services. 

Several learning theories were considered such as principles of signaling (= use of numbering), personalization (= use of you and I), segmenting (= learner-paced segments), and redundancy (= only use essential information).

Design

Based on the instructional goal, the following learning objective was established: update, categorize, and re-structure the information within the Info Hub and provide best practises to Researchers, Teachers, and Students so they can get the most out of the pages.

Development

The Info Hub was segmented into Software, Equipment, Facilities and Services. Within these categories, the following structure followed (1) Name of tool/facility/service, (2) Real Examples within education, (3) Best practices (e.g., planning and developing research), (4) Further Support (e.g., tutorials, user manual, and if available graphics), (5) Frequently Asked Questions, and (6) How to reserve software/equipment/facility/service. Later, this structure was approved by the rest of the team. Pages following this structure where divided amongst team members.

Implementation

After revision, I uploaded my assigned pages to the Info Hub.

Evaluation

The structure and content usefulness were evaluated by directly asking for feedback from learners who used the Info Hub. We received positive comments.
